Here are illustrations of the tools I've developed and we can choose from when solving problems, mapping processes, and doing whatever else it takes to help producers and underwriters be correct, consistent, quick, confident, and comfortable. There is no one-size-fits-all solution; however, tailoring one or more of the following tools to fit clients' needs has solve all the underwriting problems my clients have presented to me.

Decision trees, like the following illustration, help discipline front-line and desk underwriting efforts when similar decisions need to be made quickly.

If/then tables, like the following table, help producers, CSRs, and underwriters recognized scenarios and respond as the table indicates consistently.

The following table should be consulted whenever a producer is asked to insure someone without a driver’s license from the USA:

If this happens…	Do this…
If the applicant has no identification documentation…	then offer to quote subject to receipt of at least two types of identification documentation in the next 30 days. (e.g., any Driver’s License, a SSN card, Passport or Green Card) Be sure the documentation is scanned when the policy is issued.
If the applicant has only a foreign driver’s license…	then offer to quote and take payment to start the coverage as soon as you can get a copy of the drivers’ Passport or Green Card. Be sure the documentation is scanned when the policy is issued.
If the applicant has only a foreign Passport or Green Card…	then offer to quote and take payment to start the coverage as soon as you can get a copy of the drivers’ foreign driver’s license(s). Be sure the documentation is scanned when the policy is issued.
